Catalyst Wellington

Catalyst Wellington is a two‑hour session exploring the mathematics and physics of circus, designed for high‑achieving Year 12 and Year 13 students who want a taste of university‑level problem‑solving. This session is led by award‑winning engineering lecturer Peter Bier, one of Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland’s most celebrated educators and a long‑standing lecturer for MATHS 199, a university level mathematics course that students can complete while still at high school. Peter is known for his unique teaching style and memorable demonstrations, including juggling on a unicycle. Catalyst Wellington is an engaging and thought provoking introduction to engineering pathways, designed to spark curiosity and give students a meaningful first connection with Waipapa Taumata Rau. It’s an opportunity to meet our passionate staff and experience the excitement of engineering thinking in action.
