Dr Lee Beattie is a practicing urban designer and urban planner with over 25 years' professional experience. He is currently the Deputy Head of the School of Architecture and Planning and the Director of the Master of Urban Design Programme at the University of Auckland. His specialisation is in urban design and urban planning policy implementation and evaluation, growth management and housing issues.

Lee has extensive qualifications in urban planning, urban design, and environmental science: a Bachelor of Planning, Urban Planning, a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma in Environmental Management from the University of Auckland; a Master of Science, Environmental Science at Birkbeck College, University of London; a Certificate of Completion for the Creating Collaborative Solutions, John F Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education, Harvard University; a Graduate Certificate in Urban Design from the University of Sydney. He completed his PhD in Urban Planning in 2013 at the University of Auckland.
